A middle-aged man identified as Friday Ezi has been arrested by the police in Ogun state for stealing seven cars of worshippers at the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s camp ground on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in Ogun state.
Igbere TV learnt that Friday Ezi allegedly sell off the stolen cars to his accomplice, 27-year-old Onyekachi Atama, a spare parts autodealer in Onitsha, Anambra state.
This was contained in a statement released by the state police command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
Oyeyemi disclosed that the duo were arrested after Friday made away with a Toyota Camry car marked LND 636 EZ from Diligent Road within the Camp on February 1, 2020 which spurred the owner, one Titilayo Otitodogbon, to lodge a complaint at the police station.
On the strength of the complaint, a team of crack detectives were detailed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Chris Amanyi, to fish out the thieves.
“The detectives embarked on full scale forensic and technical investigation which yielded positive result with the arrest of one Friday Ezi, who actually stole the car from Redemption Camp. He was traced to Edo State, and was promptly arrested on the 10th of March 2020. His arrest and eventual confessional statement led the operatives to Onitsha in Anambra State, to effect the arrest of his accomplice and the notorious receiver, Onyekachi Atama, on the 15th of March 2020” Oyeyemi said.
Oyeyemi added that the State Commissioner of police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the Anti car theft section of the State Criminal investigation and intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution.
