Covid-19: Gov Sanwo-Olu Orders Closure Of Nightclubs, Bars, Others

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the immediate shutdown of all tertiary institutions in Lagos State.

The order was pronounced on Friday during a live update on the coronavirus in the state.

Tertiary institutions in the state include University of Lagos, Lagos State University, Lagos State College of Health Technology, Lagos Business School, Caleb University, Yaba College of Technology, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Federal College of Education.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu, who is the incident commander on coronavirus, also announced the ban of large assemblage of people in any form to halt the spread of the disease.

According to him, the impact of the disease β€œhas been enormous, on households, healthcare systems, global supply chains and the global economy.

β€œOn February 27, 2020, Nigeria recorded its first case of the Covid19 disease, an Italian who landed in Lagos from Istanbul. Since then, the number of confirmed cases in Nigeria has risen to 12, so far.’’

Sanwo-Olu said it is not surprising that Lagos, being the most populous state in the country, is the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

He, however, assured that government was ready to combat the virus, saying that the State was fully prepared weeks ahead of the first reported case in the country.

The governor said there are 11 confirmed cases in Lagos with eight of them under isolation and in admission in the biosecurity facility in Yaba.

He also confirmed ed that the index case has tested negative, and will be discharged soon.
