Coronavirus: US Cancels All Visa Appointments In Nigeria

The United Statesโ€™ Embassy in Abuja and Consulate in Lagos have cancelled routine nonimmigrant visa appointments indefinitely.

According to a statement on Wednesday on its website, also posted on social media, the move is a precaution to the spread of the coronavirus.

โ€œAs of March 18, 2020, the United States Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria is cancelling routine nonimmigrant visa appointments. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time,โ€ the statement read.

โ€œThe MRV fee is valid and may be used for a visa application in the country where it was purchased within one year of the date of paymentโ€ฆโ€

As of Wednesday, coronavirus cases in Nigeria jumped to eight after five persons tested positive to the virus.
