Ile Arugbo: Reconciliation Talks Between Kwara Govt, Saraki Deadlocked

The out-of-court talks between the family of the late Olusola Saraki and Kwara State Government over the demolition of Ile Arugbo have hit a brick wall.

Representatives of the government and Asa Investment Ltd which claims ownership of the demolished property did not arrive at a resolution on Tuesday.

The two parties met last Thursday for the first time behind closed doors at the Governor’s office, Ilorin.

The meeting on Tuesday lasted one hour without a specific adjourned date.

Counsel to Asa Investment Ltd, Abdulazeez Ibrahim, told reporters after the meeting that agreements were not reached.

He said: “Today is the second time we are meeting on this issue of settlement out of court, but up till now we have not been able to agree on definite terms.

“We have adjourned for us to meet again and see if we can iron out the proposed term of settlement and counter proposed term of settlement.

“That’s where we are now. We hope to meet again before the time the case was adjourned. No date yet. We adjourned indefinitely.”

The government’s representatives were unwilling to speak with reporters.

Justice Abiodun Adebara of a High Court in Ilorin on January 24 fixed March 2 for a report of settlement by all parties in the case in the interest of peace and justice.
