A military armoured tank has exploded in Damaturu, Yobe State, throwing the entire town into confusion, Igbere TV reports.
Military sources have reportedly blamed it on ‘weapon malfunction.’
Igbere TV learnt that the tank went up in flames on Monday opposite the Federal Polytechnic, shattering windows of nearby shops and houses.
It is not clear if there are human casualties.
Spokesperson of Sector II Operation Lafiya Dole, Damaturu, Njoka Irabor, was quoted saying: “It was an unfortunate incident that has nothing to do with an attack on the town.”
Boko Haram had a few days to Christmas attempted an attack on Damaturu which was repelled by the military.
