Singer, Tony Tetuila, has filed a copyright infringement suit against pop star, Wizkid, at a Federal High Court, Igbere TV reports.
Born Anthony Olarenwaju Awotoye, Tetuila revealed on Instagram that he and Ghanaian singer Tic (formerly known as Tic Tac) are suing Wizkid and DJ Tunez for violation of intellectual property.
âI just want to clear the air as I am hearing things coming from Ghana. Yes, it is true that myself and Tic from Ghana (formerly known as Tic Tac) are both suing Wizkid and DJ Tunez at the Nigerian Federal High Court for violating our intellectual property rights from our song Fefe Nâefe. Our lawyers have advised us not to say more than that,â he said.
The musicians say Wizkid and DJ Tunez did not seek their consent before using a line for a track released in May titled âGbeseâ.
In the song, Wizkid sang: âFefe nâefe na the beauty of a womanâ, a phrase made popular by a 2004 song âFefe Nâefeâ by Tic Tac featuring Tony Tetuila.
According to court documents, Tetuila and Tic are suing for N30 million and are also asking for 35 per cent of both the digital sales and royalties received from the song.
