Unknown gunmen have kidnapped another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Malachi Asadu, in Nsukka, Enugu State, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV reports that the priest, who is of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, was said to have been kidnapped on Monday along Imilike-Nsukka Road while returning from a diocesan meeting held at Thereasa Cathedral, Nsukka.
Police in Enugu confirmed the kidnap on Tuesday, saying that information on the abduction was still unclear.
Spokesman of Enugu police, Ebere Amaraizu, however, assured that the police have begun investigation on the incident.
The latest kidnap comes days after Rev. Fr. Theophilus Ndulue, Parish Priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ihuonyia in Amansiodo community, was rescued from his kidnappers.
Fr. Asadu’s abduction is the ninth involving Catholic priests in Enugu in less than eight months, two were killed among them.
