Appeal Court Upholds Ganduje's Election, Dismisses PDP, Abba's Petitions

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna State has upheld the election of Abdullahi Ganduje as governor of Kano State.

The election petition tribunal had on October 2 upheld Ganduje’s election in the March 24 supplementary election held in some electoral wards in Kano.

In a unanimous judgement on Friday on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate in the election, Abba Yusuf; the appellate court upheld Ganduje’s election and dismissed the appeal.

Justice Tijjani Abubakar, leading a five-man panel, dismissed the appeal which the tribunal had ruled out on grounds that the petitioners failed to prove their claims that the election was marred by irregularities and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
