A clerk, Tobiloba Ukale, 24, on Friday appeared before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of his employer’s goods worth N25 million.
Ukale, saddled with the responsibility of receiving goods supplied, putting details of the goods into the computer system and making sure that the warehouse manager signs the invoice that came with the goods, is facing a charge of theft.
The defendant, a resident of No. 5, JC. Awo St., Ogudu, Lagos, pleaded innocence of the offence.
The Prosecutor, ASP Edet Okoi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in Oct. at No. 2, Idita St., Lagos Island.
He said that the defendant stole goods worth N25 million belonging to his employer, Mr Adekunle Moshood, the Director of Moshadek Company Limited.
Okoi alleged that the defendant diverted the goods that Unilever Nigeria supplied to Moshadek.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted Ukale N10 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a parent of the defendant and the other a civil servant.
Elias adjourned the case until Nov. 19 for mention.
