An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Friday granted N40,000 bail to 23-year-old Bisi Oyerinde, over alleged burglary and stealing of mobile phones, valued at N59,000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adullahmid Lawal, who gave the ruling, said that the defendant must provide a responsible surety who must be a civil servant of not less than GL 05 and GL 06.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, stealing and fraudulently demanding money.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leramo said that the defendant and others, still at large, conspired and broke into the house of one Miss Theresa Taiwo, and stole a Tecno Cammon 2 and Itel phones, both valued at N59,000.
He said the defendant committed the offences on July 19, at 1. 34 p.m. at Corpers’ Lodge, Catholic Church, Illoro Street, Efon Alaye, Ekiti.
Leramo noted that the defendant thereafter on July 20, fraudulently demanded N16,000 from the complainant in exchange for the stolen phones through Wema Bank Account No. 0233041825, with name Olabanji Taiwo, before he was traced and arrested.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 512, 411, 390 and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap. 77, Law of Ekiti State 2012.
Lawal adjourned the case until Nov. 13 for mention.
