SexForGrades: Police Invite Dr Boniface Indicted In Controversial Documentary

Police in Lagos have invited a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu, for questioning over allegations of sexual exploitation of students.

Dr. Igbeneghu, a lecturer of European Languages and former sub-dean, was caught on camera trying to force himself on a BBC journalist who posed as a 17-year-old admission seeker.

Igbeneghu was subsequently suspended by UNILAG’s authorities and Foursquare Gospel Church under whose ministry he was the head pastor of a branch.

Igbere TV learnt on Friday that the lecturer was invited via a letter and asked to report at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, on October 23.

It also said that the letter, which was signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCIID, Yetunde Alonge, asked Igbeneghu to report at D10 section.

Alonge, however, told the newspaper that the lecturer had not honoured its invitation sent through UNILAG.

Igbeneghu was exposed in a documentary published on October 7 by BBC Africa Eye.

He admitted to demanding sexual gratification from female students in exchange for grades.

He also revealed the existence of a ‘cold room’, a location inside the UNILAG Staff club, where lecturers take female students for sexual pleasures.

The cold room has since been shut down by UNILAG’s management.
