Stephen Anigbogu was hit by a mystery bullet on the day of the Ochanja fire disaster. He narrates his experience…
“I am hale and hearty
Sense of responsibility and empathy for our brothers and sisters whose property were being destroyed by fire drove us to Onitsha on 17th October 2019 .
I went with Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Dr C. C Madubuko.
I am an Igbo Man
No matter the political divide ,those whose shops were affected are Igbo.
Love for our brothers drove us there
From Upper Iweka ,we discovered that the fire razed through the gutters down to Ochanja .
We followed the path, walked down as our two vehicles followed us from a distance up to Ochanja round about.
Determined to find solution to the raging fire damaging lives and properties of our people, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr C.C Madubuko put a call across to the fire service.
Still determined to help our people ,the Commissioner linked up with fire service from GUO Group.
Suddenly, the people started throwing stones and sachet water at us .
Then the sporadic gun shot .
The gun shot got me.
I didn’t sustain injury from any beating, but from the gun shot.
The pains i am currently experiencing did not only come from injuries I sustained as a result of the gunshots directed at us .
But I am pained by the courage of a fellow Igbo man with such heart to shoot at another Igbo who came to help.
I sympathise with all those who lost their properties and loved ones, those who were also injured as a result of the fire incident .
I also appreciate those who called ,those who met the demands of the doctor which facilitated my current state of health .
I am seriously in pains ,but the God I serve will surely see me through.
