Former Governor of Abia state and Chief whip of the Senate, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has commiserated with the victims of Wednesday’s tanker fire accident in Onitsha, Anambra, Igbere TV reports.

Senator Kalu on Thursday in a statement signed by his Special Assistant, Peter Eze, said he was deeply saddened by the destruction of lives, valuable goods and property in the inferno.

“I share in the pain and anguish of all hardworking Nigerians who lost their loved ones, goods, wares and belongings in the unfortunate fire incident in Ochanja market.

“Such incidents are preventable  but for the non challant attitudes of some vehicle owners,” he said.

The Senate Chief Whip also cited routine maintenance and precautions as a necessary safety measures that are taken for granted.

While pleading with the Federal Government to come to the aid of those who suffered different losses to ameliorate their plight and pains in this difficult moment, Kalu also urged appropriate authorities to rise up to their responsibilities to forestall future recurrences.

The lawmaker also prayed to God to grant the departed souls of the woman, child and others who were burnt to death an eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear the sad losses.
