Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has commended the judgement of the Court of Appeal which upheld the sack of Dino Melaye as senator for Kogi West.
The appellate court in a judgement on Friday upheld an earlier judgement of the Kogi State National Assembly Election Tribunal nullifying Melaye’s victory.
Bello, in a statement on Friday by his spokesperson, Mohammed Onogwu, said that it further vindicates his earlier position that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) manipulated the elections.
He praised the judiciary for being “unbiased, independent and impartial.”
The governor also congratulated the candidate of his party in the election, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Smart Adeyemi, on his victory at the courts.
He said that “in spite of the intimidation, unnecessary accusations and rumour-mongering, the tribunal and the Court of Appeal have lived up to their expectations by dispensing justice without fear or favour.”
He added: “The appeal court and the entire judiciary, therefore, deserves our commendation for further strengthening the democratic and electioneering processes in Nigeria.”
Bello also congratulated the people of Kogi West Senatorial District, adding that he was confident the people would elect Mr Adeyemi in the re-run election yet to be fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
