Immigration Intercepts Two Nigeriens Carrying Guns, Electronics

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted two Niger nationals with pistols, computers, and phones at Kongolam border, Katsina State.

NIS spokesman, Sunday James, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

r James said the men were intercepted as a result of the swift operation by NIS border operatives.

β€œThis action by the operatives was after the visit by the Comptroller-General, NIS Muhammad Babandede, and his Customs counterpart, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), to assess the level of cooperation, synergy, and successes so far recorded,” he said.

The spokesman added that the Nigeriens had attempted to shoot at the officers in order to evade arrest.

β€œThe gallant operatives overpowered them leaving one dead and the other who survived is helping with useful information about their activities,” he said.

James said the surviving Nigerien has been handed over to the police after interrogation and profiling.

He advised the border communities to desist from conniving and sabotaging government efforts at ensuring safer borders.
