The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday attended thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel in Asaba after the election tribunal upheld his victory.
It was earlier reported that the Delta State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal upheld the victory of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, had dragged Okowa to the Tribunal over alleged over-voting and other allegations during the voting exercise.
Delivering judgement on Friday, however, the three-man panel of justices said the petitioners failed to prove their allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
The Tribunal, therefore, dismissed the petition for lacking in substance and merit.
The governor in celebration of his his victory stormed the Government House Chapel for thanksgiving.
“Today, at the Thanksgiving Service at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, I emphasized that our Lord God Almighty, has once again given us victory with today’s ruling of the election petition tribunal.
With today’s ruling, we must now move forward. I call on my brother, Great Ogboru, the candidate of the APC in the March 9th gubernatorial election, to partner with us, and all Deltans, as we work to build a #StrongerDelta for everyone.
It is my fervent hope and prayer, that the God that has brought us this far, will continue to bless and guide us, as we work to direct the affairs of our state and unite all our people,” he wrote.
