Female Student Caught After Carrying ‘Expo’ In This Manner For Exam. Photos

A female student was reportedly nabbed after she was spotted engaging in examination malpractice in an ‘improvised’ way. The lady who is reported to be a student of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state, was caught after she was seen copying from the ‘expo’/answers she wrote on a pair of Flip-flops/slippers she wore to the exam.

According to reports, after being caught, the student was penalized and also had her footwear seized.

Sex-for-marks girl Monica Osagie speaks

Miss Monica Osagie, the student at the centre of a sex-for-mark scandal rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has denied shunning an invitation by the panel probing her audio tapes of her conversation with disgraced Professor Richard Akindele, who demanded five rounds of sex for marks.

Monica Osagie: denies being invited by OAU panel probing sex-for-marks audio

She made the denial via proxy, and said she was awaiting an invitation by the panel, the Saturday Sun newspaper reported.

Her proxy, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, Founder, Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, a non-profit organisation, said that the university did not at any point invite Miss Osagie to face the panel.

She challenged the university to bring evidence that she was formally invited by any means to appear before the panel.

“Before the matter went viral, the university was aware of it and they did not do anything. If the case did not go viral, the university probably would have not done anything and it would have been swept under the carpet.

“I think that we should focus more on whether the act of that professor amounts to sexual harassment, whether it was a breach of the school’s code of conduct, whether it was a breach of terms of contract for lecturers or whether he abused the relationship that should exist between lecturers and students.”

Afolabi stated that the university should be responsible and responsive in addressing issues of sexual harassment because Miss Osagie is ready to come out whenever the university extends a proper invitation to her, adding that it appears the school wants to protect its reputation at the expense of the young lady.

Let the university do what they are supposed to do by giving her proper invitation. They have all her records because she is their student. The panel has never invited her, so when the panel invites her today, she would come.”

Akiyode-Afolabi further noted that even though Miss Osagie made the recording to serve as evidence against her lecturer, “she didn’t release the audio. She got the evidence and it was given to one or two people when she was seeking for help. So definitely one of them released the audio, and she cannot be blamed for it.”

Akiyode-Afolabi stated that there has not been any threat made against Monica. “We are not comfortable with the university saying they invited her when they didn’t invite her. Her name is already out, the whole world is aware so we cannot say because of security and safety, we won’t allow the truth to prevail.”

According to the panel report, only the suspended lecturer honoured its invitation while the lady neither showed up before the panel to defend her case nor wrote a formal complaint to the institution to defend the leaked audio.

“We will like to reiterate that OAU will continue to do everything legally and morally acceptable in pursuance of its avowed commitment to zero tolerance for sexual harassment, intimidation and, or coercion,” the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede, said in a statement.

Akiyode-Afolabi said Monica hasn’t done anything wrong and is unapologetic about what she did.

“I think society should focus on what really happened, and whether such should happen in higher institutions of learning and not about what she did.”

Monica Osagie as student in sex-for-marks scandal – OAU

OAU Ife: Monica Osagie named as the student in the sex-for-marks scandal

The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife today said Monica Osagie was  the student involved in a sex-for-marks scandal, that has sorely questioned the morality of university dons, in the training of young Nigerians.

Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), said Monica Osetobe Osagie was studying for a Masters in Business Administration.

He also announced the suspension of Prof. Richard Akindele, the don  involved in the salacious scandal.

Ogunbodede’s action followed the submission of  the interim report of the committee set up to investigate the allegation of sexual harassment revealed in audio recording.

Professor Richard Akindele: suspended over sex-for-marks scandal

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a recorded audio conversation of the don  demanding for sex  to increase the marks of a female undergraduate had gone viral.

“The female voice has also been identified as that of Miss Monica Osetobe Osagie, a Postgraduate student on the Master of Business Administration Regular programme.

“The committee observed that a prima facie case of inappropriate relationship with the female student had been established against Professor Richard I. Akindele”.

The Vice Chancellor said that though the investigative committee invited both Akindele and Osagie, only Akindele  appeared before the committee.

“The report indicated that many other witnesses appeared before the committee and gave useful evidence.

“The university is making efforts to ensure that Miss Osagie appears before the investigative committee so that it can hear her side of the case and promptly submit its final report,’’ he said.

Explaining why the lecturer was yet to be sacked, the Vice Chancellor said that the provisions of the relevant statute of the university must be followed.

“Under the provisions of the relevant statute of the university, an academic staff can only be dismissed from service or have his or her appointment terminated only when the matter on which consideration is being given has been investigated by a Joint Council and Senate Committee;

“Also the staff  has appeared before the committee with his or her counsel, if so desired.

“This procedure is the minimum requirement of the law and regulations of the university.

“It should therefore be noted that the suspension of Professor Richard I. Akindele is on the basis of the findings of the Investigative Committee that he is prima facie liable.

“This decision will abide, pending the final determination of the case by the council of the University”, the vice chancellor  said.

Ogunbodede said that the university would continue to do everything legally and morally acceptable in pursuance of its avowed commitment to zero tolerance for sexual harassment, intimidation and, or coercion.

Government Owned Primary And Secondary Schools Shutdown In Abia Over Teachers Unpaid Salary

Teachers in Abia public schools have embarked on strike over six months salary arrears owed them by the state government.

This was even as the teachers accused the state leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) of undermining the plight of members by always thwarting moves to ventilate their grievances.

The strike led to shutdown of all government-owned primary and secondary schools in Abia, which were supposed to have resumed on Monday, for the third term academic session.

A visit to some of the schools in Aba, including the Constitution Crescent Primary school, Abayi Girls Secondary School, Okigwe Road Primary and Secondary Schools, Girls Secondary Commercial School and Boys’ Technical College were all locked.

Some teachers, who were seen at venues for the ongoing West African Examination Council exams and who would not want their names in print, for fear of victimisation, told newsmen they are on strike.

“We are on strike, but, as you know, Abia State NUT strikes are usually funny. The leadership of NUT here is made up of people who betray the interest of members. By the time they finish their meeting with government and some money exchange hands, they’ll force us to go back to work; without our demands being met.

“They’ve done it before and I don’t think this will be any different. We, as secondary school teachers, received our salaries last in November 2017. My colleagues in the primary schools got theirs last in January. Our leadership is the problem. They’re showing the government that Abia NUT is a toothless bulldog,” a teacher said, yesterday.

When contacted, state NUT Chairman, Chizobam Akparanta said he could not speak on the matter as they were meeting with the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu.

Striking Abia teachers will soon return to work – Commissioner

Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, has assured that the state government is actively engaged with striking teachers to ensure that contentious issues that led to the recent strike action are resolved quickly to enable students return to school as soon as possible.

2018 UTME: JAMB speaks on admission cut-off marks

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has spoken on the purported cut-off marks being circulated in some section of the media.

The board’s Head of Media and Information Department, Dr Fabian Benjamin debunked the report saying no cut-off mark whether for programmes or institutions had been released by JAMB

Benjamin announced that cut off marks would be disclosed sometime in June after policy meeting.

He warned that any institution that begins admission process before the policy meeting would be acting illegally and that it would attract consequences

In a statement, Benjamin said “we want to seize this medium to debunk such rumours as they are malicious and wicked as they are designed to defraud innocent Nigerians, especially parents and guardians as well as other stakeholders.

“No cut-off marks will ever be decided upon without the usual policy meeting which has been scheduled to hold sometime in June and which is to be chaired by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

Until that is done, every other thing that is being paraded as cut-off mark is fictitious and therefore, the public is hereby warned not to fall prey to these fraudsters.

“In the same vein, any institution that has commenced any form of admission without the official cut-off mark as would be decided upon at the June policy meeting is doing so illegally.”

I Have Thought About Suicide; Frustrated Lecturer Renounces Nigerian Citizenship. Photo

A lecturer at the department of ceramics and glass technology, Akanu Ibiam federal polytechnic, Afikpo, Ebonyi state, Victor Koreyo has written to President Muhammadu Buhari to approve his renunciation of Nigerian citizenship. Koreyo said he arrived at the decision following what he described as eight years of frustration.

Koreyo said he was demoted for a period of eight years by the management of the institution.

He alleged that since 2010 till date, the institutions had refused to approve his application for staff development opportunity because of “ethnic politics” in the school.

“I love to continue as citizen of this great nation on earth. But since I do not have the financial power or connection to challenge the rector to obey the federal government’s directives in my favour, I decided to take this peaceful action,” he said.

“I believe this peaceful action and step of honour will prevent the rector from killing me by premeditated frustration of my constitutional rights to social justice as the citizen of Nigeria. I have nursed this feeling of suicide to end these eight years of frustration by the rector and officials of the Akanu Ibiam polytechnic division of tertiary education department of the federal ministry of education.

“And have decided the renunciation of my citizenship by birth will be the best way to peacefully end my quest for social justice at the ministry of education and finally resign from federal public service of Nigeria.”

Lecturer Demands For 5 Rounds Of Sex Before Passing Student, School Reacts.

An alleged private telephone conversation between one Pastor Richard Akindele, a professor of management and accounting at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and a female undergraduate has been leaked. In the audio, the student repeatedly addressed the other person in the conversation as ‘Prof. Akindele’, who, later, protested: ‘stop calling my name!’

Several students and staff told Premiumtimes that the male voice was that of Akindele. It was also gathered that the lady is a final year student, who failed a course taught by Akindele. Several efforts to get the lecturer’s reaction were unsuccessful on Monday. .A senior academic staff in the accounting department, who volunteered to speak, revealed that Akindele was “caught three years ago” for engaging in the sex-for-mark practice.

The leaked conversation suggests the student had refused the lecturer’s initial sex demand to upgrade her. .It appeared, in the audio, that the student deliberately called the lecturer again, to play along, record him and have hard evidence against him.

The following dialogue occurred in the audio:

Student: I was really seeing my period Professor Akindele.

Lecturer: Stop mentioning my name. And now nko?.

Student: I am not on my period now.

Lecturer: Your boyfriend has done it yesterday?

Student: Is it every time that someone will be doing with the boyfriend? Is it every time you do it with your wife?

Lecturer: Yes

Student: It’s a lie, not possible. So what’s the plan now?

Lecturer: Let’s have the first one today and then we will do another one tomorrow. Is our agreement not five times?

Student: Is it B that you want to give me or C? Why would it be five times you will knack me?

Lecturer: That’s what I will do.

Student: Prof, you know what? Let me fail it. I can’t do it five times. For what nah? No worry. Thank you, sir

Lecturer: You are welcome.

When contacted, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the spokesperson for OAU said: “The university is aware and we are setting up machinery to critically look at the issue to determine the veracity, otherwise there won’t be conclusion.”…. [Swipe to listen to all]….

‘I Will Stay True To My Calling Till I Die’ Biafran Longest Serving Teacher. (Photos)

John Chukwuemeka Nwafor who hails from Ogbaku in Mbaitoli Local Council of Imo State – recently celebrated 60 years of active service in the classroom. The teacher has been a primary school teacher for 60 years now, becoming the oldest primary school teacher in the country.

He has taught and still teaches Mathematics and Physical Education, in many schools, both public and private. He taught some of today’s personalities in Nigeria and others sojourning in other countries, including a former Super Eagles player and PSG defender, Godwin Opkara.

As an athlete in the 1960s, winning many trophies, he was nick-named by his fans and admirers as ‘404’, and he equally functioned as games master in many of the schools he has taught.

He said this to mark the great achievement;

What I’m celebrating today is the God’s-given privilege to discover my vocation early on and to stay true to it. The blessings I count in this 60 years celebration are as numerous as the faces of over 6,000 children I have had the opportunity to instruct.

Today, when I look back at the reason I chose to dedicate myself to teaching, I feel fulfilled. I am glad I have spent 60 years of my life impacting knowledge, values & true north principles to children who have gone to achieve success in different fields of endeavor.

It’s incredible how time flies. It seems like yesterday when I first stepped into the classroom as a teacher on 1st January, 1958. 1 was only 18.

Looking back, I can say with all gratitude to God, it’s been 60 years of staying true to my calling: 60 years of shaping destinies and molding the beginning of numerous professionals: 60 years of teaching over 6,000 Nigerian kids.

May God continue to strengthen me as I stay true to my calling till I die.
