JUST IN!!! Police to Arraign Senator Abbo on Criminal Charges

Following his invitation and subsequent release by police authorities a few days ago, Senator Elisha Abbo is set to be arraigned in court on criminal charges this week, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV reports that Senator Abbo had come under fire following his assault on a nursing woman at an adult toy shop in Abuja.

Sources within the force headquarters, Abuja, while confirming the development said the Senator’s woes were already compounded after admitting he committed the offence.

Igbere TV recalls that Abbo had last week admitted to the offence, while apologizing to the assault victim in a press conference.

Igbere TV gathered that the police would have arraigned him on Friday but for an attempt to retrieve the original footage of the video from the sex toy shop where the incident occurred.

According to our source, a high ranking officer, the shop owner was outside Abuja attending a wedding when the police invitation got to her.

It was, however, learnt that police detectives had been able to establish a prima facie case against the lawmaker, as at press time.

Apart from the evidence deduced from the video, which showed Abbo repeatedly slapping his victim for intervening in an argument between him and the shop owner, other evidence has been established against him.

A source within the police confirmed that the Senator would be in court to show that police does not tolerate gender violence in any form regardless of the social status of the perpetrator.

The police further issued a statement saying, “Our preliminary investigation has indicted the senator and the plan was to arraign him on Friday for assault but the detectives were not able to obtain the original video from the CCTV which we needed to vet to ensure that it had not been manipulated. So, the arraignment would hold this week.”

Igbere TV recalls that the Senate had last Wednesday, condemned the Senator for allegedly assaulting the woman in the Wuse area of Abuja on May 11.

The red chamber subsequently set up an ad hoc committee headed by a former governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, to probe the action of the Peoples Democratic Party Senator.

The embattled senator, who represents Adamawa North in the Senate, allegedly slapped the woman following a brief argument.

The viral video footage had generated outrage among Nigerians with activists marching to the Force Headquarters and the National Assembly to demand Abbo’s prosecution for assault.
