CONCERNED CITIZENS OF ABIA IN DIASPORA (CCAD) WANTS ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT TO SHUT DOWN ABIA TO PREVENT COVID-19 OUTBREAK IN THE STATE.

Press Release.
24/03/2020.

Due to the outbreak and fast spread of the dreaded deadly coronavirus in Nigeria within the last few weeks, the Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora wishes to advice Abia state government led by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to shut down activities in Abia state in order to save Abia citizens and residents from the ravaging pandemic.

This call became necessary because of the daily in flock of businessmen and women who frequent Aba the commercial hub of West Africa on daily basis to buy goods from all parts of Nigeria including West African countries. It is on record that major cities like Lagos, Abuja and others have recorded the outbreak of the deadly virus. Despite this news, People from these cities where the outbreak have been recorded visit and exit Abia on daily basis thereby posing great danger to Abia residents. Also with the alleged reports of some government officials and political officeholders being suspected carriers of the virus, there is urgent need to shut down Abia as other States with less commercial activities have already done.

We do not have to wait to have outbreak before we shut down. Prevention is better than cure.

Based on the above mentioned, Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora (CCAD) suggest the following as preventive measures to save Abia state;
1. All schools at all levels should be closed.
2. All major markets should be locked down.
3. All Religious, social and political gatherings should be prohibited.
4. All ministries should be closed while workers will be advised to work from home.
5. All political officeholders and government officials who have recently visited countries and states in Nigeria where there are reported cases of the outbreak should voluntarily submit themselves for test.
6. All who have had close contact with those who are carries of the coronavirus are advised to make themselves available for test and possibly self isolation.

We also wish to call on all Religious leaders in the state to join others who are praying for God to save our dear state, country and the world at large. Finally we call all Abia residents to maintain high level of hygiene and observe the safety measures prescribed by health workers.

God bless Abia God’s own state!

Signed;
Prince Erondu Uche
National Coordinator Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora
