Xenophobia: FG Promises Stipend, Loan, As 187 Nigerians Return Home

About 188 Nigerians who departed South Africa on Wednesday over xenophobic attacks in the country arrived Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that they arrived at about 9:30p.m. and were received by Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDComm), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and officials of Immigration Service and NEMA.

Recall we had reported sometime last week that Chairman of Air Peace volunteered to air lift those interested to return home free of charge, following a presidential order for them to be evacuated immediately.

Speaking when she received the returnees at the Lagos airport, Dabiri-Erewa assured that the Federal Government would support those who had resolved to return back to the country from South Africa.

According to her, over 640 of them have indicated interest to return home (Nigeria) in the last one week.

β€œThe Bank of Industry will also be here to offer some entrepreneurship programme and some support to start a small business and there would be some stipends for transportation and take home”, he said.

β€œWe are also going to profile them and for those who want to get any training, they will decide what kind of training they want to do and the Bank of Industry will be there to provide it”, Dabiri-Erewa added.
