Kogi 2019: Gov Bello Drops Deputy, Picks New Running Mate

The rift between the embattled deputy governor of Kogi State (Simon Achuba) and his boss, Yahaya Bello, seems to have robbed him more politically.

This comes as Governor Bello, who is seeking re-election, over the week, dumped the deputy governor for a fresh mind, as running mate.

Igbere TV reports that Bello, flag bearer of the APC, has picked his Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja, as running mate in the November 16, 2019 governorship election.

Igbere TV learned that the governor submitted Onoja’s name to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his trip to Abuja earlier in the week.

“The chief of staff is the running mate of His Excellency in the forthcoming election. An official announcement would be made soon,” an official of the Kogi State government, said.

“Mr Onoja’s name was submitted to the national working committee of the party when His Excellency visited the party headquarters on Thursday.”

Spokesman of the Governor, while reacting to the development, said; “The party will confirm that (Onoja is the running mate to the governor) at the appropriate time.”

Igbere TV reports that Onoja, 49, an indigene of Emonyoku-Ogugu in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi, was the chief strategist of “Yahaya Bello Campaign Organization” in 2015.
