Xenophobia: Buhari Deploys Special Envoy To South Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari has despatched a “special envoy” to South Africa over the recent and renewed xenophobic attack on Nigerians in the country, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians in South Africa, were set ablaze and many others looted by South Africans.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Femi Adesina, Buhari said the special envoy is to convey his concerns and also to interact with President Cyril Ramaphosa on the situation.

He revealed that the special envoy is expected to arrive in Pretoria, South Africa, latest Thursday, September 5, 2019.

“President Buhari has despatched a Special Envoy to convey to President Cyril Ramaphosa his concerns and also interact with his South African counterpart on the situation”, he said.

“The Special Envoy is expected to arrive in Pretoria latest Thursday, September 5, 2019”, Femi Adesina added.

Earlier, Buhari directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, to summon the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria and get a brief on the situation; which the Minister already did.
