JUST IN!!! Govt Orders Inclusion Of Fulani Language In Curriculum

Zamfara State Government has ordered the immediate inclusion of Fulfulde language, also known as Fulani or Fulah, into the education curriculum of schools in the state, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Governor Bello Matawalle gave the order while receiving the state’s RUGA settlement master plan from the project consultant in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital.

The governor had commenced the construction of 300-hectare RUGA settlements for pastoral farming in the state during the week, as previously reported by Igbere TV.

The pastoral settlements, Igbere TV gathered, on Sunday, will occupy 100 hectares of land in each of the three senatorial districts of the state.

The Zamfara Council of Chiefs led by the Emir of Mafara, Alhaji Muhammad Barmo, had during the presentation of the RUGA settlement master plan urged Matawalle to include Fulani language in the state’s education curriculum.

Barmo argued that just as Hausa language is being taught in schools, the Fulani language should also be introduced into curriculum of schools in the state.

Responding, Matawalle directed the state’s Ministry of Education to commence immediate work on the inclusion of Fulfulde in the state’s education curriculum.

“This will boost the use of our local languages by our upcoming generations”, he said.

“Since we have promised to establish primary and secondary schools at the new Ruga settlements, we will ensure that the local language is not forgotten,” the governor added.
