Kogi 2019 Guber: SDP Gets Female Candidate

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State, Mrs Natasha Akpoti on Friday emerged the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state.

This was contained in a statement made available to Igbere by the Director of Media and Publicity of the party, Hon. Yemi Akinbode.

According to the statement, Mrs Akpoti who was the party’s Senatorial candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the last general elections was returned as the SDP Governorship candidate after winning the party primaries which took place in Lokoja, the state capital.

It stated that Akpoti was returned after polling a total of 751 votes to the emerged winner in an election in which she was the only candidate.

“Although Mrs. Akpoti was the only candidate for the election, but the SDP maintained that for her nomination to pass through due process, party guidelines and procedures, all 762 accredited voters from the 21 local government areas went through the voting process to fulfil the requirements for the nomination of Akpoti as the party’s governorship candidate,” the statement added.

While presenting the candidate to the public, the Chairman of the SDP Electoral Panel Dr. Benson Ogbonna-Agwu said that Akpoti was declared the governorship candidate of the party having satisfied all the requirements as stipulated by the party’s constitution and in line with the 2010 Electoral Act (As amended).
