Presidency Reacts As Twitter Shuts Aisha’s Account

The Presidency has reacted to the suspension of the Twitter account of Mrs Aisha Yesufu, a strong critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the micro-blogging platform, on Thursday, suspended the account of Yesufu, co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaign.

“Caution: this account is temporarily restricted. You are seeing this warning because there has been some unusual activity from this account,” a message on Yesufu’s twitter account read.

Further checks by Igbere TV late Thursday afternoon, however, indicated that the account suspension had been lifted.

Reacting to the report, President Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, distanced his principal from the suspension of the activist’s twitter page.

“Aisha violated Twitter rules, and Twitter suspended/restricted her activities, but Sahara Reporters is here bring Buhari’s name in it. Please do the needful, tell us the rules she violated that got her restricted. We are all eager to know,” Ahmad said.

The online medium (Sahara Reporters), had accused the presidency of instigating Twitter to shut the account over her stance on Buhari’s government, reports Igbere TV.
