The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye has been sacked by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV reports that Melaye, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Feb. 23 general election, was declared winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dissatisfied by the declaration, Mr Smart Adeyemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) approached the tribunal challenging Melaye’s victory, while citing irregularities, over voting and non-compliance with the electoral acts.
Delivering judgement on Friday, Aug. 23, the three man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous decision, accepted Adeyemi’s ground and ordered for fresh election in the senatorial district.
Melaye had defeated his closest challenger, Adeyemi, and other candidates in the Feb. 23 election to win a reelection for a second term, recalls Igbere TV.
