Ekweremadu: No Arrest Made, Demonstration Peaceful, Legal - German Police

The police in Germany says the attackers of Senator Ike Ekweremadu won’t be prosecuted, adding that they have rights to demonstrate, Igbere TV reports.

This is coming days after the Nigerian Embassy in Germany said that those behind the attack would be prosecuted and brought to book.

Igbere TV had reported that Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, was attacked in Nuremberg by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

But reacting in a clip obtained by Igbere TV, Nuremberg police spokesman, Rainer Seebauer said the incident was “non-criminal” and won’t be investigated.

According to him, it was merely a demonstration against the lawmaker, adding that the police was able to manage the situation.

“There is nothing serious about the case.

“The Senator from Nigeria came (to Germany) and about 30 people demonstrated against him and the police was called to calm the situation.

“And then the lawmaker was driven away in his car. Everything was calm, nothing serious happened”, he said.

Asked if there would be any arrest, the police spokesman said there will be no arrest, or investigation of any sort, adding that the case was closed.

“No, no, no! No arrest, nothing serious about the incident at all.

“The police was able to calm the situation, it was merely a demonstration and the man (Ekweremadu) was driven away (with his car).

“Nobody was arrested, no police investigation, case is closed!” the police spokesman added.

This has further laid to rest the call for the prosecution of Ekweremadu attackers, and the move by the Nigerian Embassy (in Germany) to get involved in the matter.
