Fake Facebook Post Lands Lawyer In Prison

A 59-year-old legal practitioner based in Edo State, Mr Ogedengbe Ayodeji, has landed in prison over a fake news he shared on his Facebook timeline, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the lawyer had alleged that the operational licenses of the Edo University, Iyamho, had been revoked by the National University Commission, NUC.

Ayodeji was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Oredo area of the state, on Friday. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The defense team, led by Peter Uwadiae, pleaded with the court to grant bail to the accused on self-recognition.

Uwadiae, who led 27 other lawyers in defence of Ayodeji, told the court that the accused is a legal practitioner and would not jump bail if granted.

He added that the Benin Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) will ensure that he attend trial.

The presiding Magistrate, I .U. Iyoha, granted the accused bail on self recognition and adjourned the case till September 3, 2019 for continuation of hearing.
