IPOB Happy With Sit-At-Home Compliance

IPOB Happy With Sit-At-Home Compliance

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday said that full compliance of the Sit-at-home order it issued was   to generate support for the release of its detained leader Nnamdi Kanu and the restoration of Biafra State.

The group expressed happiness over the massive compliance  with the sit-at-home order observed by Biafrans at home and the peaceful protest by those living in Diaspora, saying that it showed that the “ general public supports the campaign for the release our leader, Kanu who has been in detention since  October, 2015. A statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB Mr. Emma Powerful said that IPOB members worldwide were bent towards the restoration of  Biafra.

It reads in part: “This sit-at-home order and worldwide protests were to prove to the general public and entire world of our total resolve towards bringing back the future of our people and unborn children”.
“IPOB is a non-violent movement that follows due process in pursuing the freedom for our people, and we are not disposed to the use of force in our demand.  Nigeria’s security agents were waiting to kill our people again during the sit-at-home , but were disappointed. That is why we decided to stay at home  to show solidarity with him. We did not force anybody to comply, rather, people freely stayed at home  in support of the freedom of our people. We thank them”.

Powerful said, “The protest took place in more than 97 countries across the globe where Biafrans, friends of Biafra, lovers of freedom submitted letters to  world leaders, the United Nations ( UN) offices across the globe. Letters and petitions were also submitted to the presidents, chancellors, prime ministers and other world dignitaries, the Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other human rights organizations”.

“However, we observed that  President Muhammadu Buhari at the 71st United nations summit in New York, USA,  supported the creation of Palestine from Israel but cannot allow the peaceful people of Biafra who are agitating for freedom to go. The Federal Government of Nigeria and her security agents have been killing unarmed civilians who are using peaceful means and passive resistance to demand for their own nation” he alleged.

“Furthermore, the leader of IPOB and director of radio  Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will be in court  tomorrow,  September 26, 2016 in Abuja. We are calling on  the international community and other world leaders to prevail on Nigeria’s government to release our leader and others detained in different prisons and security cells across the country unconditionally,” he appealed.

“Above all, courts of competent jurisdiction in Abuja granted him unconditional release last year, because he committed no crime against humanity. But the government that put Nigerians into serious hardship refused to release him, because he is fighting for the restoration of Biafra and for his people” he stated.
The IPOB had last week declared a sit-at-home order on Friday, September 23 to protest against the continued detention of its leader Kanu ,and restoration of Biafra State which was carried out in some of the states in the South – east and South-south geo- political zones, while there were protest marches in some countries.
