A journalist with popular Nigerian television station, Channels TV, has been shot, Igbere TV reports.
This was as members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, on Monday clashed with police operatives in Abuja.
Igbere TV reports that members of the group, on Monday, took to the streets to protest the continued detention of their leader, El-Zazaky, by the Nigerian government.
Our Abuja correspondent reports that the protest kicked off at NITEL junction, Wuse II, where the protesters proceeded to the Assembly complex.
They however met strong resistance by the police, who had cordoned off the road leading to the National Assembly, where both clashed.
Those injured, including the journalist, have been rushed to the hospital as at press time.
Sporadic shootings also greeted the air as passersby scamper for safety.
As at the time of filing this report, policemen and other security agents are trying to stop the protesters from gaining access to the three arms zone, where the National Assembly is located.
