BREAKING: NASS Orders DSS, Police To Seal Edo Assembly, Demands Fresh Inauguration

The crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly, Wednesday, took a dramatic turn following the directive of the House of Representatives to the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki to issue a new proclamation.

The directive, according to a document obtained by Igbere TV, is to allow for the proper constitution of the House and inauguration of members-elect.

The House also directed the Inspector General of Police, IGP and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS to shut down the Assembly and provide adequate security “to allay further fears of intimidation and threat as alleged by members-elect.”

Igbere TV reports that the decision was taken at the Committee of the Whole when the House adopted the recommendations of its Committee set up to investigate the crisis bedeviling the House.

It subsequently directed Governor Obaseki to issue the proclamation in seven working days.

“Where these measures fail, the House has also resolved to assume the functions of the State House of Assembly as stipulated in section 11(4) of the 1999 constitution as amended”, the document added.
