A Nigerian activist movement, #OurMumuDonDo, has mocked President Muhammadu Buhari over his double
standard role in the reinstatement and eventual sack of the former head of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.
The group berated the president for signing Mr. Maina’s letter of reinstatement only to later recant and issue a directive for his disengagement from service.
“This is a country where a man who was declared wanted by the security agents was brought back into the country by the cabal and the same man who was just sacked by the president has just escaped over night,” said the co-convener of the group, Deji Adeyanju.
He added that it was obvious that Nigerians’ public outcry propelled the president to renounce his position on Mr. Maina. Mr. Adeyanju maintained that the president actually signed the letter of reinstatement.
The group accused the government of being economical with the truth while simultaneously helping the fugitive escape justice. “The president has again said that an investigation should be conducted, but the same president has not acted on the report of the suspended Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and the and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke,” Mr. Adeyanju said.
He stressed that Nigerians have lost confidence and trust in the Buhari government and urged the public to hold the president accountable for all corruption being perpetrated under his watch.
The group had vowed not to be deterred and threatened to continue to hold demonstrations till 2019 until concrete action is taken against government officials who have been accused of corruption.
