BREAKING: House of Reps Takes Decision On Edo Assembly Crisis

The Federal House of Representatives, on Tuesday, resolved to set up a committee to investigate the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly.

This followed a motion brought before it by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Comrade Peter Akpatason and Hon. Johnson Oghuma, All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers from Edo State.

The motion seeks to compel the state governor, Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation for a proper inauguration of the Edo Assembly.

It also seeks to temporarily take over the affairs of the Edo Assembly, pending whenever a proper inauguration is carried out.

The sponsors of the motion described the move as a matter of urgent public importance, in view of the crisis rocking the legislative house.

During the deliberations, some lawmakers asked for investigation before the House takes a final decision.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his ruling, resolved that the committee, once set up, will be mandated to carry out its findings and report back to the House in one week before any further action.

Recall that 14 members-elect of the Edo Assembly, who were not sworn in during the last controversial inauguration, on Tuesday, stormed the NASS complex seeking for the management’s intervention in the Edo Assembly crisis.
