Hon Benjamin Kalu: The New Face of The 9th House of Reps (Photos)

Elected to represent the good people of Bende in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu hit the ground running immediately he was sworn in as a lawmaker in the Ninth National Assembly, June 11.

A first timer, Ben Kalu set world record when he moved the first motion of the Femi Gbajabiamila led Ninth House of Representatives.

“It has never happened before that a first timer moved the first motion of the National Assembly, Benjamin Kalu is a go-getter and an achiever. He will sure make a good Rep”, a high ranking lawmaker, told Igbere TV.

Hon Kalu had on the 13th of June, moved a motion calling for federal government’s urgent intervention on the erosion ravaging some parts of his home state, Abia.

The motion did not only get the House approval, but it also got popular as it attracted several contributions from other lawmakers including members of the opposition parties.

On the third day, Benjamin Kalu presented five bills which have already passed through first reading.

Among others, Igbere TV reports that Kalu proposed a bill for the establishment of FCT Education Resource Centre, a bill many lawmakers have described as “first of its kind.”

While the good people of Bende were still celebrating his first move on the floor of the House, Hon Kalu, on the fifth day, presented three additional bills which have also passed first reading.

In addition to the three bills, Kalu moved two other developmental motion same day, which attracted loud cheers from his colleagues who have nicknamed him “the peoples lawmaker.”

“Hon Benjamin Kalu is a man to watch out for in the Ninth House of Representatives. With people like him in the House, it won’t be business as usual,” a lawmaker in the Northeast, told Igbere TV, on Friday.
