BREAKING: Wike Revokes Licenses Of Schools In Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has revoked the operational licenses of all private schools in the state, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the governor had directed all the affected schools to seek fresh approval.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Saturday by Dr Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), he said the decision was reached at a meeting with all private school owners at the Government House in Port Harcourt, on Friday.

Danagogo said the application for fresh approval must be done by all affected schools within the next two weeks.

“All the schools must apply for operational approval within the next two weeks.

“We will set up committees that will recommend the approval of schools. All the schools in the state must be up to the required standard,” the statement read in part.

The SSG said the second term of Wike’s administration is committed to improving the right standards in the education sector for the good of Rivers people.

“The governor’s office will review all the approval of schools. All the existing approvals by the Ministry of Education have been cancelled. For this process, there will be no room for bribery and corruption,” he said.

On the issue of revenue paid by schools, Danagogo said all levies must be paid through approved designated bank accounts.

He said that anyone who demands for cash payment should be reported to security agencies via designated phone lines.

The SSG said that his office will soon publish the telephone lines that school proprietors could contact in case they are pressured to pay illegal levies.
