Former Governor of Edo State and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed sadness over the controversies that trailed the ‘inauguration’ of the Edo State House of Assembly, Igbere TV reports.
He said he was ashamed of Governor Godwin Obaseki over the role he played in the sham display of ignorance, adding that minority cannot rule over the majority.
Igbere TV reports that the 7th Edo Assembly was inaugurated secretly on Tuesday at about 10:22pm, with nine out of 24 members electing Mr. Frank Okiye as Speaker of the House.
The 9 members are said to be loyalists of Governor Obaseki.
19 lawmakers-elect, who are loyalists of the National Chairman, had earlier addressed a press conference where they alleged that the governor was trying to impose a Speaker on the House.
Speaking on Friday at the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja, Oshiomhole said; “I am ashamed to talk about it but there is nothing to hide.
“We have a situation in Edo where in our own case we have 24/24 all of them APC but somebody wants a particular person as a Speaker, 19 out of 24 are opposed to this person.”
Meanwhile, Igbere TV had earlier reported that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had berated the Edo state governor over the partial inauguration of the Edo Assembly.
In a statement issued to Igbere TV on Friday by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, National Publicity Secretary of the party, he called on Governor Obaseki to issue a proper proclamation to allow for the lawful inauguration of the House and subsequent election of presiding officers in a transparent manner.
