A dramatic scene unfolded on Thursday at the Bauchi State House of Assembly, when 11 lawmakers-elect out of 31 members elected a new Speaker, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV reports that the 11 lawmakers who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met at the House about 6 am to elect the new Speaker without recourse to the rest 20 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bauchi State is being governed by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor, Bala Mohammed, whereas the All Progressives Congress dominates the House of Assembly as majority with 20 members, against PDP’s 11.
Our correspondent reports that the 11 PDP members elected Hon Abubakar Suleiman of the APC as the new Speaker before the arrival of his 20 other colleagues.
Drama started when the remaining 20 members arrived the Assembly complex and organised a parallel sitting and re-elected the former Speaker, Hon Kawuwu Damina.
