9th NASS: See What Ndume Did After Losing To Lawan

Senator Ali Ndume on Tuesday shunned the election for the Office of Deputy Senate President after his defeat to Ahmed Lawan, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that Ndume representing Borno South, on Tuesday, lost the Senate Presidency race to Lawan with 27 : 79 votes.

Igbere TV reports that Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President of the Peoples Democratic Party and Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress were the two contenders for the Deputy Senate President seat.

Ekweremadu however lost to Omo-Agege bringing his 12-year Deputy Senate President reign to an end.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani Omolori, who called each lawmaker out to vote in alphabetical order of the states (A-Z) and constituencies they represent, called Kashim Shettima of Borno-Central to cast his vote.

After Shettima had voted, Ndume’s name was called repeatedly but he refused to come forward to vote.

Ndume lost by a landslide to Ahmed Lawan, the new Senate President.
