A final year Microbiology student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Aliyu Maidamma, has reportedly been kidnapped days to the first-semester examination.
It was gathered that the incident occurred Friday evening on the student’s way back to Sokoto after the Sallah break.
The victim’s brother, Ibrahim Maidamma, told The Nation that they lost contact with the victim at 3 pm that day and were contacted in the evening by the suspected kidnappers.
“First, they requested N3million before they could release him. Another one called shortly after, warning that if we don’t pay the money, they would kill him,” he said.
President of the Students’ Union, Faruk Barade, said he was aware of the kidnap. He, however, said he had not met with the family to get details of the incident.
The university’s Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Aminu Mode, said the management had not been informed of such incident.
“I am unaware of the incident. Maybe the parents are trying to reach out to the abductors on a personal level,” he said.
Police in Sokoto are also yet to comment on the said kidnap.
