Governors under the auspices of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, have called for an emergency meeting to endorse candidates for the various leadership positions in the 9th National Assembly, Igbere TV reports.
This comes less than 24 hours after the Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, announced his withdrawal from the Senate Presidency race.
Goje, who is also the Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriations, is believed to be the preferred candidate of the opposition PDP until today.
This may have informed the decision of the PDP governors to call an emergency meeting to re-strategize and endorse candidates for other elective positions.
“The meeting billed to hold today in Abuja, is expected to be attended by the 16 PDP governors across the country,” a PDP governor in the East told Igbere TV, on Thursday.
Igbere TV gathered that Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, who is also the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, will preside over the meeting.
Our source told us that the meeting, which is expected to start by 7pm, is likely to be attended by the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.
