Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Danjuma Goje has withdrawn from the Senate Presidency race, Igbere TV reports.
Goje, who is said to enjoy the support of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, said he is stepping down to support Senator Ahmed Lawan, candidate of his party, All Progressives Congress for the Senate number one position.
He announced his decision on Thursday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.
Recall that the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu had also met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo behind closed doors on Monday and the meeting was not made public.
