According to a Vanguard report, Charly boy and his members under the Ourmumudondu group, Friday, blocked the entrance to the Owerri office of the Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC. Members of the group started arriving the, EEDC office, at about 8am, along Portharcout road Owerri.
Their demands were captured in a protest letter delivered to a representative of EEDC, who received them. The letter as presented by the leader Imo state chapter of the body, Mr. Precious Nwadike, said: ” The movement and her network of partners have noted with dismay the exploitation inclination of the EEDC, in Imo state.
“Immediate suspension of the estimated billings system. We believe that the idea to subject consumers to bills generated from mere guessing or estimation is criminally and retrogressively driven which should be jettisoned immediately.
“Prompt provision of pre-paid meters at no extra cost at all to the Imo electricity consumers. This demand we believe is the standard procedure, globally which will ensure that consumers are billed according to power consumed.
“Your argument of energy theft cannot outweigh the need to do the right thing, as obtained in decent climes. It takes the crude managers and service providers to do otherwise.” Members of Ourmumudondo protesting yesterday, at the Owerri, EEDC office, along Potharcourt road.
