Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday handed over power to Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor-elect of the state.
Igbere TV reports that, Ambode, who lost his second term bid to Sanwo-Olu, formally handed over to the governor-elect in a low-key function at the Lagos State Government House, Ikeja. The ceremonial handing over ceremony is billed to take place tomorrow, May 29.
In a post obtained by Igbere TV on his verified Twitter handle, the outgoing governor wrote, “To the Glory of God, I have just handed over the reins of government in Lagos State to His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, after a rewarding 4-year experience.
“This would not have been possible without the support, cooperation and prayers of all Lagosians.
“I remain eternally grateful to you all. God bless you all.
“And to God be all the Glory.”
Ambode is the first Lagos governor to have served a single four-year term, after losing re-election bid. Former governors Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Raji Babatunde Fashola, had served two terms – since the fourth republic – 1999.
