The Imo State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Owerri has dismissed two petitions seeking to upturn the election of Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as Governor-elect of Imo State.
Igbere TV gathered that the petitions dismissed are that of Nwadigo Chris C and Clifford Okechukwu of the Democratic Alliance.
Igbere TV reports that both candidates are the election of PDP’s Ihedioha in the 2019 governorship election.
The petitions were dismissed for not adhering to the provisions of paragraph 18(1) first schedule of the Electoral Act (amended) and thereby not applying for their pretrial notices within time as provided by the paragraph, a situation which rendered their various petitions liable for dismissal.
Earlier another petitioner, Ekeogu Chigozie John withdrew his petition, which was then struck out by the tribunal.
These dismissals and withdrawals of petitions reduces the number of petitions against the governor-elect from about 9 to about 4.
Hearing continues on the other petitions on the 31st of May.
