The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has complied with the Supreme Court judgement on Zamfara State elections.
Igbere TV had reported that the apex court on Friday held that the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not have any valid candidate in all the elections that held in Zamfara State.
In its ruling led by Justice Tanko Muhammad, acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, the court held that the ruling party did not conduct valid primary elections to nominate candidates for any elective position in the state.
Consequently, the apex court, in its verdict, dismissed an appeal the APC lodged to challenge the Appeal Court’s judgement. Besides, the court awarded a cost of N10million against the APC.
Igbere TV reports that, INEC, while announcing its decision to comply with the court judgement, declared all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winners of the 2019 general election in Zamfara.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, told journalists in Abuja that Certificates of Return would be given to the Governor-elect, Deputy-governor-elect, three Senators and seven House of Representatives members-elect by 2pm on Monday, Igbere TV reports.
