JUST IN!!! Venezuela Crisis: Kalu to Brief Buhari Over Meeting With Maduro

Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has said he would brief President Muhammadu Buhari on the outcome of the meeting he had with President Nicolàs Maduro of Venezuela.

He said this while addressing newsmen at the Simon Bolivar International Airport on Wednesday.

Igbere TV reports that, Kalu, now a Senator-elect for Abia North, had on Tuesday paid a visit to embattled President Maduro, whose stay in office is being challenged by the President of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Juan Gerardo Guaidó.

He said that his visit to the South American country was a peace initiative of the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation (OUKF) and its partners across the globe.

According to the Forbes-rated billionaire businessman, for any nation to thrive, there must be peace and harmony. He however did not disclose details of the peace moves.

Kalu, while speaking further, said that he used the opportunity of his visit to also meet with members of the Afro-Venezuelan community.

He called on governments of the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), China, Russia, Nigeria and others to fashion out an inclusive and integrated strategy to overcome the crisis facing Venezuela.

The Igbere-born philanthropist stressed that foreign leaders and diplomatic corps across the globe are deliberating on the challenges being faced by Venezuela in a bid to restore peace and normalcy.

His words: “I am in Venezuela in my capacity as the founder and chief promoter of Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.

“The visit is in line with our foundation’s objective of promoting peace across the world.

“We are working with development partners and critical stakeholders to ensure peace and prosperity in Venezuela.

“We are living in a global community and as such, we must continue to promote and sustain peace initiatives across the world”.

Kalu, who did not disclose details of his meeting with Maduro, hinted that upon his return to Nigeria, he (Kalu) would brief President Muhammadu Buhari and convey a note from Maduro to the Nigerian leader.

“President Buhari has continually played leading roles in promoting world peace. This feat will in no distant time earn Nigeria’s President, the Noble Peace Prize.”

Igbere TV reports that the Senator-elect, who was seen off by Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister, Yvan Gil, has since departed Caracas for Germany.

He is expected back in Nigeria this weekend.

This is not the first time the former governor would broker peace.

Igbere TV recalls that, Kalu, had on several occasions, settled disputes and prompted peace among individuals and communities.

Specifically, he had in the past, settled the rift between Muhammadu Buhari and General Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Odimegwu Ojukwu and Dr. Alex Ekwueme and many others.

Kalu made headline last month following the move to bring together a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, to resolve their differences.
