Militants Killed Operatives Of The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad
Gunmen, suspected to be militants, yesterday, laid ambush for operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSAR, Lagos State Police Command, in Igando area of Lagos, killing one of them.
It was gathered that the operatives had gone to confront the militants, who were alleged to be attacking residents of Igando, who they accused of divulging information that led to the arrest of some of their members to police.
It will be recalled that the Lagos State Police Command had arrested about seven suspected key members of a kidnap syndicate, who have their camps around Ijegemo creeks in Igando. Among them was a pastor, whose church was allegedly used as haven for kidnappers and a mother of seven, who confessed to own a camp close to the creeks, from where she informed kidnappers of intruders presence. it was gathered that in response to yesterday’s distress call, about 20 policemen from FSARS were drafted to Igando.
‘They ran into an ambush in arriving the community, in which one of the operatives, Solomon Esemuze, a Sergeant, was reportedly shot in the head. He shot two of the militants before he fell. His colleagues, who immediately retreated, rushed him to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where he was confirmed dead.
