Police Apprehend 5 Armoured Cable Vandals In Abuja
Nigeria Police operatives attached has busted and arrested members of a notorious syndicate that specialises in vandalising armoured cables and other installations.
The suspects: 20 years old Nafiu Zayanu; Yushau Kabir, also 20; Iliasu Abubakar, 20years; Ashiru Sani, also 20 and Aliyu Usman, who is 25 years and all male and stay in Dutse-Apo Pantaker Market were arrested on August, 25, at about 0300hrs at Aminu Kano Crescent Wuse II while vandalising electrical cables belonging to Abuja Electrical Distribution Company.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, exhibits recovered from the suspects include: 87 pieces of electrical cables, giant cutting machine, and a red colour Golf 3 car with reg. no. AH 972 KRV.
In a related development, operatives of the FCT Command while on patrol on August 21, at about 3am intercepted some hoodlums who were vandalising some armoured cables at Maitama road about by Yakubu Gowon House.
The suspects abandoned their operational car and the vandalised cables and took to their heels on sighting the Police operatives.The following exhibits were recovered at the scene: 76 pieces of armoured cables and a black golf 3 saloon car with reg. no. YLA 582 TS.
Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa assured residents of Federal Capital Territory that the FCT Police Command under his watch has put in place proactive security measures to secure and protect electrical installations and all critical infrastructures in the FCT from being vandalised by hoodlums.
The Commissioner has since ordered the transfer of the suspects and exhibits to the Command Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation that will lead to the arrest of their cohort and possible prosecution.
