Anambra election: Ifeanyi Ubah speaks on outcome, hails Buhari

Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, Ifeanyi Ubah, has commended the conduct of the Anambra governorship election.

He also hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for not interfering in the exercise.

Ubah further commended Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful election.

The business mogul, in a statement he personally signed, said the nation’s leader in particular, deserves a loud ovation.

He noted: “A landmark statement has been made. The roots of our democracy have been entrenched and your name has been inscribed in Gold forever in the hearts of Ndi Anambra.

“On behalf of APGA faithfuls, Afa Igbo Efuna and Ndi Anambra both at home and in the diaspora, I wish to express my heartiest gratitude to you, His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for keeping to the promise of a free and fair election which you made to the people of Anambra State last month during Governor Willie Obiano’s visit to you in Abuja.

“Despite initial scepticism owing to the scar caused by rigging and security issues during elections at the state level in the past and recent utterances by members of political parties to cause mayhem at all cost, Anambrarians came out in their numbers to test your resolve in ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and their wishes are not usurped.

“Thankfully, at the end of the process, the wish of the people reigned supreme and Ndi Anambra have you to thank immensely for that.

“May I also use this medium to commend you, Mr. President, for ensuring the impartiality and independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as they provided a level playing field for everyone who participated in the contest as well as the professionalism of the entire Security Outfits of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who joined hands with the electorates to ensure that the election was violence and rancour free.

“Mr. President, this singular show of unparalleled patriotism has set an excellent tone for the 2019 General Elections as you have reassured Nigerians of your total neutrality and complete fairness in the electioneering process and the independence of INEC.

“Ndi Anambra will forever remain very grateful to you for an election that will go down in history as the freest and fairest election Anambra state has ever witnessed.”

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Prof. Zana Akpagu, the Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar (UNICAL), had declared Governor Willie Obiano winner having polled 234,071 votes.
