JUST IN!!! 9th Senate President: Ndume Speaks On Stepping Down For Lawan

As the heat continues over who succeeds Dr Bukola Saraki as Senate President, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday met behind closed doors with Senator Ali Ndume, top contender for the nation’s number three position.

IGBERE TV reports that Ndume representing Borno South has been under intense pressure to step down for Senator Ahmed Lawan, who has the backing of the ruling All Progressives Congress as the party’s preferred candidate.

IGBERE TV recalls that the APC had earlier enjoined all Lawmakers-elect of the party in the National Assembly to support its choice of candidates for the leadership positions.

But Ndume has continued to insist to contest for the seat of Senate President despite the party’s instructions.

It was thought that his meeting with the Vice President would encourage the former Senate Leader to abandon his ambition.

However, Ndume, after meeting, vowed not to step down for the choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Lawan.

When asked by State House correspondents whether he would step down, he asked rhetorically: “Me?”

He, however, declined to speak further on the Senate Presidency race as he maintained that he was still holding consultation.

“This is not the time to talk now because I am still holding consultation,” he declared.

Sources close to the former Senate Leader also told IGBERE TV that in spite of the tough talk of the APC, the Borno Senator would not give up on his ambition to become the next Senate President.
